Between 26 and 73 MILLION sharks are killed for their fins every year. Now nearly a third of open-ocean shark populations are threatened with extinction. Washington and Hawaii have already banned the trade and sale of shark fins, the National Resources Defense Council supports the proposed ban on shark fins in California.
